Recession affects women's contributions

Findings from the Friends Life Workplace Savings Index show that women's contributions to occupational schemes reduced by 5% in real terms over the last 12 months, reflecting the impact of the recession on saving habits.

Men on the other hand increased their average monthly contributions by £14, widening the gap between women's average pension contributions at £200 per month and men's at £324 per month. While it is positive to see that most people are maintaining their pension contributions, the apparent increase is only in line with inflation.
